Nutrition
Dr. Canuel has taken over
150 hours in post-graduate clinical nutrition training. He is
currently working on his Diplomate in Clinical Nutrition and taking
classes through University of Miami and Standard Process. Seperate
from his chiropractic practice, he offers customized clinical nutrition
to his patients.
What is customized clinical nutrition?
A plan that is customized to an individual that is
based on their specific needs. The clinical portion of the plan
pertains to results that patients have obtained during clinical use of
nutrition over many years. The nutrition portion of the plan is
designed by nature to include real food that enables the body to heal
and repair itself moving toward optimal health.
How do I know what supplements to take?
Dr. Canuel will take a comprehensive history along
with Bioelectrical Impedance Measurement (BIM) using the Biomeridian.
Utilizing this information, a comprehensive support program will be
formulated including detailed recommendations of whole food supplements
your body needs to achieve optimal health benefits. Our goal is to have
you take the least possible supplements to achieve your specific needs.
What is the Biomeridian?
The
Biomeridian is a safe, non-invasive painless tool that is used to
assist Dr. Canuel with objective data to determine what major systems
and organs of the body are stressed and weakened and may need
nutritional support for optimal health. It does this by measuring the
electrical conductivity between specific points on the body by creating
a "circuit" and then measuring the flow of electricity between those
points. Fifty-eight different electrical "circuits" in your body
related to specific organs and systems are measured. This data is
compared to a database of over 1.5 million tests to identify areas of
your body that have moved away from the norm. BIM testing has been used
in medicine for many years to obtain important health information. Some
recognizable devices are the EKG and EEG used to measure heart and
brain function.
What are whole food supplements?
The definition of whole food is "food that has
undergone very little processing and has been grown or produced without
the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers." Simply put, they
are supplements made from whole foods. It's source is grown and
harvested in nature without refinement. An orange is a good example. It
is grown and picked from a tree and contains the things that nature
intended for us to be healthy-naturally occurring vitamins, minerals,
enzymes, and phytonutrients- the complete complex. In whole food
supplements these foods are concentrated in tablet form containing the
above mentioned constituents and the complete vitamin complex just as nature intended.
Synthetic supplements are vitamins produced in a
laboratory containing vitamin isomers in an attempt to mimic nature.
These are typically missing the synergistic vitamins, enzymes and
phytonutrients that were designed for our bodies to function healthy
and optimal. Unfortunately the majority of vitamin supplements found in
health food stores, drug stores and large chain department stores are
synthetic.
I eat well, can't I just clean up my diet?
There has been a decline in the quality of food for over the past 50 years or so. Our nation is the sickest it has ever been
dependent
on pharmaceutical drugs for health. Although many drugs are needed to
keep a person alive and for body systems and organs functional, drugs
are not food and cannot replace the need for the vital building blocks
that are needed restore health to tissues of the body. Our bodies
function is founded on nourishment from the environment. Unfortunately
today the majority of food contains heavy metals, toxins, chemicals and
pesticides in addition to trans-fat and excessive sugar. These are
typically disguised with words such as partial hydrogenated oil or high
fructose corn syrup. Hormones and antibiotics have become rich in our
food supply. Most of what people eat has been drastically processed
containing almost no nutritional value and works against your body and
health. Even if your diet is high in veggies, fruits and natural meats
the nutritional content has been stripped from out soil and grasses
leaving these better food choices far inferior than
what they used to be and containing the harmful substances mentioned
above. It's important to eat as healthy as we can and will make a
great difference in your overall health although it's almost impossible
to get all the nutritional requirements for optimal health with today's food sources.
How long does it take to become healthy again?
This varies drastically from patient to patient.
Most people didn't become sick overnight. It was years of abuse and
poor dietary and lifestyle habits. Some people are sicker than others.
On average most people begin to have some noticeable improvement in 6-8
weeks however it may take 6 months or even a year before health is
restored. I like to put it this way, "health is a journey, not a
destination". My goal for most patients is to educate them to eating
properly where all they need is one or two daily supplements, maybe an
omega-3 and/or a whole food multiple vitamin.
How do I get started on a customized clinical nutrition plan?
Make an appointment by calling (321) 751-2333 to
schedule a Biomeridian exam. Some paperwork, including a history and
questionnaires, will be given to you to fill out prior to the exam.
It's that simple.
